Samsung has introduced the 50MP ISOCELL GNK sensor, which serves as a direct successor to the widely utilized 50MP ISOCELL GN1, both in terms of specifications and usage by various OEMs, including Samsung itself.

The 50MP sensor has a 1/1.3″ size with 1.2µm pixels. Samsung has incorporated advanced technologies to enhance the sensor’s performance, including the Dual Pixel Pro autofocus, which significantly improves focus speed for sharp photos of moving subjects.

The 50MP ISOCELL GNK sensor has the capability to capture images with a remarkable dynamic range of 120 dB, and in its Pro mode, it can capture 14-bit RAW images. Furthermore, the sensor can manage 8K videos at 30 fps with minimal loss of field of view.

The sensor supports HDR videos and 1080p footage at 240 fps. While Samsung has not specified the initial phones to feature this new sensor, it’s expected that we’ll witness the first phones equipped with the ISOCELL GNK in the coming year.

As it’s not considered a flagship-grade sensor, it is anticipated that this sensor will be incorporated into upper-mid-range and even some budget phones. This suggests that it may be featured in smartphone models within the Galaxy A series, among others.

Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 200MP Sensor

Regarding the upcoming Galaxy S24 series, it is anticipated to include a new 200MP camera sensor. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC supporting this camera, it is likely to deliver enhanced image quality as a standard feature.

Samsung provided a sneak peek at the camera features of the Galaxy S24 Ultra in a video released ten days ago.

The video highlights a range of new camera software features, such as “Zoom Anyplace,” which enhances 4K zoom by automatically tracking subjects and maintaining focus on them.
