With just a few hours remaining until the commencement of Microsoft Build 2024, the company headquartered in Washington is expected to unveil a product announcement of broad interest, particularly concerning their Surface tablets, laptops, and the Windows operating system during the event.

Scheduled for May 20, Microsoft Build will adopt a hybrid format, featuring both in-person and online sessions, with CEO Satya Nadella delivering the keynote address.

A day prior, Microsoft disclosed new consumer iterations of its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models at a confidential event. These new models are speculated to incorporate upgraded components like Intel’s “Meteor Lake” processors, a dedicated Copilot key, and enhanced 1440p cameras.

The Microsoft Build 2024 event, themed “AI beyond Copilot,” is anticipated to include announcements surrounding various AI technologies beyond Copilot, such as Microsoft’s collaboration with the open-source Stable Diffusion image generation model, as indicated by a session titled “Learn how to accelerate Stable Diffusion.”

In addition to Copilot updates, the event is likely to cover Microsoft 365 (formerly Office) enhancements, with expectations of deeper Copilot integration within Office apps and Teams. Moreover, Microsoft is anticipated to showcase efforts to assist enterprises in leveraging Copilot with their data and customizations.

Updates to Microsoft’s Mesh platform for virtual and augmented reality may also feature, with a joint Microsoft-Meta panel demonstrating Mesh integration with Office applications and the Windows experience on Meta Quest VR devices.

Copilot, Microsoft’s AI assistant, will receive significant attention during the event, with numerous sessions dedicated to showcasing new capabilities integrated into Windows and Office applications. Microsoft aims to emphasize how Copilot facilitates “low-code” development, simplifying the process of building custom functionality for users.
