Google bringing Gemini AI to older Pixel Buds

Google recently launched the Pixel Buds Pro 2, introducing its new Gemini AI technology. This advanced feature allows users to customize the press-and-hold gesture to activate Gemini AI and access the Gemini Live feature for brainstorming with the AI assistant. However, Google has now announced plans to bring this cutting-edge AI to older Pixel Buds models as well.

Pixel Buds Pro 2’s Gemini AI Feature

The Pixel Buds Pro 2’s Gemini AI offers an enhanced user experience, allowing the personalization of gestures to interact with the assistant more efficiently. Now, older Pixel Buds users won’t need to upgrade to experience these benefits, as Google aims to integrate Gemini AI into previous models.

Older Pixel Buds to Get Google Gemini

Currently, older Pixel Buds, including the Pixel Buds, Pixel Buds A-series, and Pixel Buds Pro, come equipped with Google Assistant. As Google gradually phases out Google Assistant in favour of Gemini AI on Android devices, the tech giant confirmed that older Pixel Buds will also receive the Gemini AI integration.

New Features for Older Pixel Buds

Once integrated, older earbuds will gain access to Gemini’s large language model (LLM) and AI platform. To get personalized responses through Gemini AI, users will need to unlock their paired Android phone first.

In an email to Pixel Buds owners, Google explained that both Gemini AI and Google Assistant will coexist on the earbuds. Users can still activate the “Hey Google” voice command by enabling it through their connected Android phone’s settings.

However, the Gemini AI update will be limited to regions where the service is currently available. As a result, some older Pixel Buds models may remain restricted to Google Assistant.

Google has yet to confirm a timeline for when this update will be available for older Pixel Buds models.
