Google is reportedly testing verified checkmarks in its search results to help users identify trustworthy sources. This new feature is an extension of the Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) feature, which displays checkmarks in Gmail next to a sender’s name and address.
According to Google’s spokesperson, Molly Shaheen, the company is running a small experiment with these checkmarks to help users recognize reliable businesses online. The move is intended to combat fraudulent websites that impersonate legitimate companies, potentially spreading misinformation or damaging brand reputations.
Several users have reported seeing blue verified checkmarks next to business links in Google search results. This indicates that companies like Meta, Microsoft, and Apple are authentic, providing a safeguard against scams.
While Google has automated systems in place to prevent fraudulent websites from appearing in search results, this feature adds another layer of security for users.
Google has not officially announced the rollout of the verified checkmarks, and it remains unclear when the feature will be available to the public or additional companies.
