WhatsApp Set to Introduce New Image Search Feature
Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp is rolling out a new beta update for Android users, version 2.24.21.3, aimed at protecting users from misleading or fake images.
This new feature, designed to enhance image verification, allows users to quickly confirm the authenticity of images by performing a reverse image search via Google. This capability makes it easier for users to detect potentially deceptive content in images they receive.
WhatsApp has assured users that their privacy will remain protected, as the images will be processed securely and not stored by WhatsApp. Currently, this feature is available in beta for users with the WhatsApp beta Android 2.24.21.31 update, downloadable from the Google Play Store.
In addition to the image verification tool, WhatsApp is also working on a feature to verify links in frequently forwarded messages, further expanding its efforts to reduce misinformation across the platform.
This update will enable users to perform image searches directly on the web, whether the image is from a friend or forwarded content, providing a more reliable way to check the credibility of the media they receive.
