OpenAI has expanded its Advanced Voice Mode feature to web browsers, enabling users to interact with ChatGPT using voice commands. The announcement was made by OpenAI’s chief product officer, Kevin Weil, on X.

Initially available to paying subscribers on Plus, Enterprise, Teams, or Edu plans, the feature will soon roll out to free-tier users as well. This release follows the September introduction of Advanced Voice Mode on ChatGPT’s iOS and Android apps.

Powered by GPT-4’s audio capabilities, the feature facilitates real-time, natural conversations with the AI chatbot. It can interpret non-verbal cues like speaking pace and respond with varied emotions.

To use the voice feature on the web, users can click the Voice icon in the ChatGPT prompt window and grant microphone access. Once activated, a blue orb signals the start of the voice chat. Users can choose from nine distinct AI voices, including “easygoing and versatile” Arbor and “confident and optimistic” Ember, to tailor their experience.

This development underscores OpenAI’s commitment to making ChatGPT interactions more engaging and lifelike across platforms.
