OpenAI  announced that ChatGPT can now access the contents of macOS applications, enabling users to receive real-time assistance without needing to take screenshots or copy-paste text. This new feature, designed to enhance user experience, allows ChatGPT to provide input based on what’s being done in another app.

The feature was introduced following the release of the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS in May. OpenAI has since been enhancing the app, including the recent addition of Advanced Voice for desktop.

Initially, this functionality will be available for developers’ apps, including Apple’s Xcode and Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code. Additionally, ChatGPT will have access to the Terminal, potentially empowering all users to become power users.

The app insight features will be exclusive to ChatGPT desktop on Mac, with premium users gaining early access. It is expected that enterprise and education users will receive these features in the coming weeks.

This new capability brings ChatGPT closer to offering similar features seen in apps like Cursor, providing live support during activities such as Zoom meetings or offering tips for developers.
