Google is set to re-enter the laptop market with a new high-end device codenamed “Snowy.” Designed to compete with premium laptops like the Apple MacBook Pro, Dell XPS, Microsoft Surface, and Samsung Galaxy Chromebook, this project has officially been greenlit. Moving beyond the concept stage, Google has assembled a dedicated team to bring this ambitious laptop to life.
Although early reports suggest the device will run on Chrome OS, recent insights from Android Authority indicate that the laptop could feature Android instead, aligning with Google’s ongoing efforts to merge both operating systems. This potential shift may provide a unified and innovative user experience, distinguishing the Pixel Laptop from other devices in the market.
While this isn’t Google’s first attempt at entering the laptop space, the “Snowy” project appears to be its most ambitious yet. The original Chromebook Pixel, launched in 2013, set a high standard with its premium design and specifications but struggled due to its hefty price. Later models like the PixelBook and PixelBook Go showed promise but failed to establish Google as a major player in the laptop market.
Now, with “Snowy,” Google aims to change that narrative. The laptop will feature a sleek design and advanced capabilities, positioning it as a strong contender in the high-end laptop market. Whether it will run Chrome OS, Android, or a hybrid of both remains to be seen, but Google’s determination to dominate this space is clear.
