According to MacRumors contributor Jeff Pu, Apple is determined to reach the 6mm goal but might need to compromise on battery capacity to do so.

This trade-off has raised concerns about battery life, a critical user feature. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to sit below the iPhone 17 Plus in Apple’s lineup, targeting fans of sleek designs.

Currently, Apple’s slimmest model is the iPhone 6, at 6.9mm thick. Comparatively, the iPhone 16 measures 7.8mm, and the Pro Vision series is 8.25mm thick. The iPhone 17 Air aims to set a new standard, outpacing these models and competing flagship devices in the market.

The device’s name remains uncertain, with conflicting reports suggesting it might be called the iPhone 17 Slim instead. However, its introduction is anticipated to showcase Apple’s next-generation A19 chip and proprietary 5G modem, offering cutting-edge performance.

While fans eagerly await an official announcement, the balance between ultra-slim design and practical battery life could play a significant role in the iPhone 17’s reception.
