Register Your VPN Using Mobile Numbers: Here’s How
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has initiated a second trial to block unregistered and illegal Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) operating in the country.
This two-day trial involves testing advanced firewall technology to simulate the shutdown of unregistered VPNs. The exercise is part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to regulate VPN usage and ensure adherence to government policies.
The PTA has set a deadline of November 30 for users to register their VPNs, with an official ban on unregistered VPNs set to take effect from December 1. So far, over 25,000 VPNs have been successfully registered, showing an increasing awareness among users about the registration process.
This trial follows an earlier test that also focused on identifying and blocking unauthorized VPN connections. While VPNs are commonly used for secure internet access and to bypass restrictions, authorities argue that unregulated VPNs could pose risks to national security and interfere with digital surveillance.
