ChatGPT to Introduce Claude-Like Folder Feature for Organizing Chats

OpenAI has unveiled a new organizational feature for ChatGPT, drawing inspiration from Claude.ai’s chat management system. During their “12 Days of OpenAI” event, the company introduced “Projects,” a folder-like system designed to help users categorize and organize their chats and related data by specific topics or tasks.

“This is really just another organizational tool. I think of these as smart folders,” explained Thomas Dimson, an OpenAI staff member, during the livestream.

The ChatGPT Projects feature functions similarly to Claude’s chat organization tool, providing users with an efficient way to store relevant documents and information related to ongoing conversations.

For example, an author conducting research for a book can upload their notes, sources, and documents to a single folder, which means they don’t have to reshare these materials every time they start a new chat session with the AI.

“This feature helps users manage their home projects better. We want to make it easier for people to access the information they need, when they need it,” Dimson added.

OpenAI demonstrated the tool by showing how users can upload and organize their home maintenance logs or appliance details in a Projects folder.

These documents can then be retrieved quickly when users ask about when their fridge or another appliance needs maintenance, making the process even more efficient.
