Meta’s Edits aims to rival CapCut for video creators

Meta has launched a new video editing app, “Edits,” to compete with ByteDance’s CapCut. The move comes after CapCut was removed from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store due to the ongoing TikTok ban in the United States.

Although TikTok has been reinstated in the US following a 14-hour outage, CapCut’s future remains uncertain.

Edits: Meta’s New Video Editing App

Instagram head Adam Mosseri took to Threads to announce that Edits will be launched next month, initially for iOS, with an Android version expected later this year.

“Today we’re announcing a new app called ‘Edits’ for those who are passionate about making videos on your phone. With a lot happening right now, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators,” Mosseri said, adding that Meta is working with a small group of video creators to gather feedback and improve the app.

How Edits Works

Edits will feature a variety of creative tools, including a dedicated inspiration tab, an idea-tracking tab, and a high-quality camera. The app will allow users to share draft versions with friends and collaborators.

Additionally, it will include performance analytics, enabling creators to track their video’s success on Instagram after it is shared. Currently, Edits is available for preorders in the App Store.
