The wait is over let the games begin as the countdown to the Winter Olympic Games 2026 begins Google is sparking excitement with a vibrant animated Doodle that celebrates the fast-paced and fascinating sport of curling.

Hosted by Italy, the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics will start on February 6 and run until February 22, promising an unforgettable spectacle. The Doodle captures the spirit of curling, setting the stage for two weeks of fierce competition and unforgettable moments.

In the animated design, a curling player expertly slides a stone across the ice, with the iconic letter “G” subtly integrated into the motion. The two “O”s in Google bring the stone’s movement to life, amplifying the Doodle’s energy and highlighting the intensity of the sport.

Curling is no ordinary ice sport it’s a thrilling combination of strategy, precision, and teamwork. Each match begins with a handshake, followed by a coin toss to determine which team takes the first shot. Two teams of four players each take turns launching 44-pound stones towards the target area known as the “house.”

The house features two concentric circles, and the objective is to get your stone as close to the center as possible. With a distance of 150 feet to cover, accuracy is key.

After eight throws, the team whose stone is nearest to the center scores points. If several stones from one team are closer than the opposing team’s, they rack up even more points.

The heart of the game is the “skip” the team’s captain, who delivers the final, decisive stone. The stones are thrown with a precise spin, making them curve across the ice, which is why curling has earned its unique name. As the stone slides players sweep the ice in front of it adjusting its speed and trajectory.

While the skip may seem to be shouting instructions, it’s all part of the strategy those passionate commands guide the team’s efforts and ensure every move counts.

The team with the stone closest to the center of the house wins the round, and after all rounds are played, the team with the highest score takes home the victory.

Italy is ready to showcase its world-class hospitality as the host for the 2026 Winter Olympics, with spectacular events happening at iconic venues like Milan’s San Siro stadium. The Games will span from February 6 to February 22, concluding with a dazzling closing ceremony in Verona on February 23.

While the grand opening ceremony will officially mark the start of the Games, certain events, including curling and ice hockey, will get underway a few days earlier.

The thrilling men’s gold-medal ice hockey match will bring the Games to a close, capping off what promises to be an exhilarating and unforgettable Olympic experience.
