SEOUL: Samsung is reportedly working on a roll-able screen smartphone that could mark its next major step in mobile innovation after foldable devices.
The company is expected to launch its first commercially available roll-able phone around mid-2028. The device is said to feature a 10-inch “OLED” display that expands from a standard smartphone size into a tablet like screen for work and entertainment use.
Unlike foldable phones, the roll-able design would extend the display outward, allowing users to switch between compact and larger viewing modes while keeping portability.
Samsung Electronics is reportedly leading the development, while Samsung display is in talks to supply the roll-able OLED panels. The project aims to combine smartphone convenience with tablet-style productivity in a single device.
The move is also seen as part of Samsung’s effort to maintain its position in premium smartphone innovation as competition grows in the foldable market, particularly from Chinese manufacturers.
The company may introduce the device under the name Galaxy Z Slide or Galaxy Z Roll, although branding has not been finalized. The launch is expected to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Samsung’s foldable smartphone lineup.
In a separate development, Samsung is also expected to expand its mid-range Galaxy A series in Pakistan with the upcoming Galaxy A57 and Galaxy A37 smartphones.
The Galaxy A57 is expected to feature an Exynos 1680 chipset, a 6.7 inch Super AMOLED display, a 5000mAh battery, and a triple camera setup with a 50MP main sensor. It is likely to be priced around $550.
The Galaxy A37 is expected to come with an Exynos 1480 processor, a similar 6.7-inch display, a 5000mAh battery, and a slightly scaled down camera system. It may start at around $450.
Both devices are expected to offer long term software support and in display fingerprint sensors, with a focus on improved performance and durability.
