The information commissioner of Australia is suing Facebook over allegedly breaching the privacy of over 300,000 Australians caught up in the Cambridge Analytica scandal without their knowledge.

According to the details, Information Commissioner Angelene Falk said in a statement, “The design of the Facebook platform meant that users were unable to exercise reasonable choice and control about how their personal information was disclosed.”

According to the sources, At the time, Facebook said 311,127 Australians between March 2014 and May 2015 had data shared with the app, accounting for 0.4% of users affected by the breach.

However, the court documents reveal just 53 people in Australia installed the app.

Earlier on March 6, Facebook has removed deceptive advertisements from the Donald Trump campaign that promotes “the Official 2020 Congressional District Census”.

The advertisements showed respondents were participating in the official 2020 US census that will commence on 12th March.

Fundraising group backed by Republican officials and Trump’s re-election team has promoted them.

Facebook gave its stance, “There are policies in place to prevent confusion around the official US census,”

The spokesperson said, “This is an example of those being enforced,” 

The adverts have been circulating since March 3. Users have to take part in the general survey focusing on Republicans’ talking points.

“Trump Make America Great Again Committee” has funded the ads as part of fundraising tactics for official re-election.
