As the anniversary of the country’s 73rd Independence Day approaches; excitement and passion among people can be seen. The ongoing pandemic also could not affect the patriotism among the people in Pakistan.

In particular, children are more displaying their vigor, passion, and traditional excitement to celebrate August 14.

From local markets to small street vendors, everyone is selling small paper flags, patches, paper caps, buntings, and large flags.

One of the customers said,

“Despite the lockdown imposed in the country, we love to celebrate the independence day with full enthusiasm.”

He added,

“It is everyone’s patriotism especially the children who want to buy things for the 14th August celebrations.”

Pakistan came into being on 14th August 1947. The All-India Muslim League led the movement to get independence under the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The event was brought along by the 1947 Indian Independence Act, in which the British Raj gave independence to the Pakistani Empire (present-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) including West Pakistan.

The day of freedom coincided with Ramadan 27 in the Islamic calendar, which evening, being Laylat al-Qadr, is considered by Muslims as sacred nights of the month.
