Putting mark after casting vote
Two wives of a tribal man, who was the previous sarpanch, won panchayat elections in Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh, prompting the man to congratulate voters in his own Nanpur village. Samrath Morya, 35, wanted even his third wife to run, but she’d have to quit her work as a peon in the education department, acquaintances told the media.
On April 30, he married Sakri (25), Mela (28) and Nani Bai (30) in Nanpur, 14 km from Alirajpur headquarters and 400 km from Bhopal.
“I am on cloud nine. The people here love me and my wives. They have showered their blessings. I live with my three wives in a small room in perfect harmony and we attend all functions together,” he stated. Samrath, who has three boys and three daughters from his previous marriages, stated that he was an active member of the BJP.
“I married Nani Bai ( a peon in the education department) in 2003, Mela in 2008 and Sakri in 2017. The formal marriage with a huge gathering was held on April 30 this year,” he said.
The many-married man is so happy he’s hosting parties all day, his friend Jitendra Vani told the local news channel. Chandrabhan Singh Bhadoria, a veteran journalist and tribal cultural specialist, said polygamy isn’t illegal in Samrath’s tribe, the Bhilala. Their marriages aren’t controlled by the Hindu Marriage Act, said Bhadoria.
