A beauty competition went ugly when a major brawl broke out at the after-party.

On Friday, October 21, between guests, the devastation was captured on camera as Angelia Gunasekara was named the winner of New York City’s first-ever Miss Sri Lanka beauty contest.

A brawl appeared to occur between drunken revellers at The Vanderbilt in South Beach, Staten Island, with a film showing one tiara-wearing woman caught in the crossfire.

Soon, several men and women were fighting blows, with shrieks from spectators and those attempting to separate the battle.

As other people try to stop the violence, at least two men jump atop other males on the floor and begin hurling fists.

As the altercation outside the venue erupted, all 14 beauty queens were inside the building.

The first-of-its-kind pageant, which drew more than 300 guests, aimed to collect funds for a Sri Lankan hospital in the midst of the country’s economic hardship.

Members of the public, meanwhile, have expressed fury at the now-viral tape, fearing that there will be no more and that it may have harmed the participants’ careers.

According to one critic, “First ever and last. What a disgrace.”

Another organiser, Chandra Muniweera, stated, “We thought we had a very nice and a very good pageant, but unfortunately, this incident happened.”

“They’re building stories from those few videos, but they don’t understand the damage they’re doing to these 14 girls who were not involved in the fight.”
