Ukrainian journalist’s culinary photo heats up war-torn Kyiv

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its 245th day, living in the country’s war-torn cities becomes increasingly hazardous by the day. Katerina Sergatskova, editor-in-chief of Kyiv-based media company Zaborona Media, shared a photo on Tuesday that depicted what it’s like to live in Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv while the continual threat of Russian assault looms.

Sergatskova posted a photo of herself cooking in her dark kitchen while wearing a torch helmet. She wrote with this shot, “If you are in Kyiv, Mykolayiv, Pokrovsk or Zaporizhzhia, your dinner preparing most likely will look like that. Just another blackout in my apartment. Thanks to the air defense, Iranian drones didn’t hit Kyiv today.”

Russia is increasingly destroying Ukraine’s infrastructure with ‘kamikaze’ drones manufactured in Iran. On October 17, these drones collided with sunflower oil tankers in the port city of Mykolaiv, resulting in a massive oil spill and fire.

A Twitter user commented on Sergatskova’s photo, saying, “So sorry you have to deal with such conditions. I hope and pray for an immediate end of this horrible war on your country. You all are my heroes.”

Another person told, “As an Iranian, I’m sorry that you have to go through this because of our government. We want them to go and Ukraine to be in peace.”
