Bride asks Rs 24,000 to guests to help couples buy a property

A woman recently commented on Reddit about her bride-to-be friend who asked for £250 (Rs 24,200) cash from each of her wedding guests as a wedding gift. If the guests do not pay the stated sum, they will not be permitted to attend the wedding.

The woman took to social media to explain that she had known the bride-to-be for over a decade and that it was upsetting to hear that she was expected to bring a certain amount of money to the wedding in addition to paying for flights and hotel accommodations.

In the post, the woman wrote, “She recently reached out to tell me what I’d be expected to bring as a wedding gift. I had been planning a gift already, a custom piece of art to commemorate their day made up with their birthstones all in all a cute design that I’d seen online that I thought would be nice but I’d not yet ordered it so I was, of course, happy to hear what she wanted instead.’

She was, however, taken back by her friend’s remark.

“I was told I had to bring a minimum of £250 cash as my wedding gift to them I was shocked by this as that’s a lot of money especially considering that I have to fly out and get a hotel.”

“When I questioned her about this she said it was the bare minimum every guest had to bring and that anyone who didn’t wasn’t allowed into the wedding,” the woman continued.

The woman stated that her friend dismissed it, stating that it is a common practice in Belgium and that the money is used to purchase a home for the newlyweds. Later in the post, the Redditor stated that she will not be attending the wedding and thanked her friend for the offer. Take a look at this post:

Several individuals have backed her up and commented on her article. “NTA, that’s not a custom. Sounds like she figured out the cost per person and tacked on additional money to profit from her wedding. Tacky.” “Custom to buy the bride and groom a house?!!! I highly doubt it. It’s a cash grab. Give her a “custom piece of art” of a picture for $250 and tell her it’s for her dream home. As in, only in her dreams would you give her that much money.”
