After the groom kissed her on stage in front of nearly 300 guests, an enraged young woman called off her wedding.

On Tuesday night, the groom kissed her shortly after the pair exchanged garlands. The bride went away from the dais and later phoned the police.

The bride, a 23-year-old graduate, claims the groom kissed her to win a bet with his pals, and she now “doubts his character.”

Both parties were escorted to the police station, where the bride said that the groom sexually grabbed her, but she initially ignored it.

“When he kissed me, I felt insulted. He did not care about my self-respect and misbehaved with me in front of several guests” She claimed.

Police attempted to negotiate, but the bride refused to back down, so the wedding was cancelled and the guests returned home.

“The groom was provoked by his friends. We tried to convince my daughter but she refused to marry him. We have decided to wait for a few days and let her take some time to decide,” Her mother said

The police said, “Technically the couple is married as the rituals were done by the time the incident happened. We will decide what to do after waiting for a couple of days for things to cool down.”

Brides in Shahjahanpur and Lakhimpur Kheri, for example, have cancelled their nuptials after the grooms performed a nagin dance.
