More than 2000 people were killed and a great deal of damage was done as many buildings and structures were demolished on Monday as a series of very strong earthquakes shook Turkey and Syria. The majority of people were asleep when the earthquake occurred in the early morning. Videos captured at various sites and posted on social media during and after the earthquake illustrate the destruction that resulted.

A video of “weird bird behavior” just before the disaster shook the area has been circulated on Twitter.

Within minutes, online users had commented on the video and shared their thoughts.

I’ll list a few here:

They felt a terrible event was going to happen.

One user stated, “That’s because they can sense what’s coming, as most animals can.: While another said, “Bird can sense or know before an #earthquakes. I always feel happy when birds and animals are safer. Humans I really don’t care much, including myself.”

A third person commented, “They sensed it, I’m sure there were quite a few animals acting strange before earthquake hit.” fourth user said, “The animals always know first.”
