The Guinness World Record (GWR) for having the longest tongue on a dog was broken by Bisbee, an English Setter from Tucson, Arizona, in the United States. The three-year-old dog’s snout measures 3.74 inches and his tongue is longer than a popsicle stick (9.49 cm). The press release on the GWR website states that the dog must have its tongue sticking out of its snout as far as it can comfortably go before a trained veterinarian measures it from the tip up to where it first becomes visible.

GWR wrote on Twitter, “Bisbee has a big heart and an even bigger tongue!”

The couple, Jay and Ericka Johnson, purchased Bisbee as a puppy at a “charitable auction,” where he was being sold to raise money for a good cause. “We fell in love with him the moment we saw him. So, that evening, he travelled home with us, said Jay. The Johnsons soon realised, though, that Bisbee was a little unique. Ericka reflected on her observation, saying, “He just looked really disproportionate.” The couple quickly discovered that their dog has the largest tongue. She also mentioned how different Bisbee appeared when he was panting. However, until he opened his muzzle, Bisbee’s tongue wouldn’t be particularly visible.

“When he exercises, his tongue always comes out, and my wife says that’s excessively long,” Jay explained. Furthermore, he stated that he thought it was relatively normal, but his wife “had his tongue measured and lo and behold, he’s got a long, long tongue.” “I sent a picture of him panting to my sister and my dad, and I think one of them mentioned that it could be a world record,” Ericka said.
