US President Donald Trump has once again lashed out at opposition. He warned his fellow Republicans that their opponents may “steal” November’s US election 2020.

He talked to his delegates on the first day of the party convention in North Carolina.

He said, “They’re using COVID to defraud the American people,” adding that mail-in ballots could lead to voter fraud.
He accused Democrats of “using Covid to steal an election”.

“The only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged US election 2020,” he said. “We’re going to win.”

Mr. Trump was formally announced to be the Republican nominee on Monday at his party’s convention in the city of Charlotte.
“Now if you really want to drive them crazy, you say 12 more years,” the president said.

His supporters chanted “Four more years!” at the event.

Mr. Trump has more often said that expanded mail-in voting – which is expected to be more prevalent this year amid the coronavirus pandemic – will lead to “the most corrupt election” in US history.

Ellen Weintraub, the commissioner of the Federal Election Commission, has said: “There’s simply no basis for the conspiracy theory that voting by mail causes fraud. None.”

The US House of Representative has passed a bill according to which $25bn (£19bn) will be injected into the Postal Service (USPS) before elections.

The bill would block cuts and changes that critics claim will hinder mail-in voting.

President Donald Trump said in a tweet that the move was a Democrat ballot scam.

“Representatives of the Post Office have repeatedly stated that they DO NOT NEED MONEY, and will not make changes,” he has warned to veto the bill.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell said the chamber would “absolutely not pass” the bill.
