Vote counting for US Election 2020 is at its peak. While candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump fight to win the Electoral College, Democrats and Republicans are in the race.

As per the details, Democratic former governor John Hickenlooper has taken Colorado’s seat from the Republican incumbent Cory Gardner.

On the contrary, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Trump ally Lindsey Graham have been re-elected.

Moreover, Republican candidate Tommy Tuberville has taken the seat from Democrat Doug Jones.

Note that Senators serve for six years and one-third of the seats are up for re-election after every two years.

This time, 35 out of 100 senate seats are being contested. A party needs 51 votes to gain control.

According to the international news agency, a Democrat-controlled House and Senate would have the power to obstruct the plans of a second-term President Trump or push through the agenda of a first-term President Biden.

Note that Republicans are already enjoying a 53-47 majority in the Senate. This implies that a Democrat requires an overall gain of 4 seats to win the majority.

Of the 35 seats up for grabs, 23 are currently Republican-held and 12 are Democrat.

On the other hand, the Democrats already have control of the House of Representatives and are aiming to keep hold of it while also gaining a majority in the Senate.
