Residents in Lucknow’s Indira Nagar were left perplexed after a bunch of teenager thieves stole taps and sewer covers from almost half a dozen homes.

A local neighbour remarked, “The thieves, apparently, got access to the bathrooms and took off the taps. However, they did not take anything else with them. We fail to understand the purpose behind this kind of theft.”

Teenage burglars scaled the boundary wall of a house to perpetuate the burglary, according to CCTV footage from the community. Some of the houses’ sewer covers were also stolen by the robbers.

Ramphal Prajapati, Station House Officer (SHO), Indira Nagar, said a complaint had been received and an inquiry was ongoing. He added, “We are identifying the accused, and prima facie, it appears that some drug addicts have committed the theft. They will be apprehended soon.”

While the theft of sewage lids is normal, this is the first time that taps have been taken, according to a police officer. He added, “It is mostly the drug addicts who steal sewer lids and sell them to scrap dealers but we do not understand the reason behind stealing taps.”
