A guy who has lived at China’s Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal for over a decade says he has no plans to return with his family.

Wei Jianguo, a man in his late 50s, moved to Terminal 2 of the airport in 2008 and has been there ever since. After his family gave him an ultimatum to stop drinking and smoking, Jianguo moved into the airport. According to China Daily, he stated that he cannot return to his family since he does not have “freedom” there.

According to Jianguo, “My family told me if I wanted to stay, I had to quit smoking and drinking. If I couldn’t do that, I had to give them all my monthly government allowance of 1,000 yuan ($150). But then how would I buy my cigarettes and alcohol?.”

The report stated that Jianguo’s everyday routine consists of going to the nearest store to buy something.

Jianguo said, “six steamed pork buns and a bowl of porridge for breakfast,” he added, “At least I have my freedom in the airport.”

He was staying in train stations and airports after leaving his family. “There’s nowhere warmer than here,” he decided at Beijing’s Terminal 2 airport.

Jianguo has spent the last 20 years working at an internal combustion engine manufacturer. He said he was fired from his job in his 40s because he was “too old.”
