A breathtaking video of a blazing streak of light rippling across the night sky above Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, which seems to be a meteor shower, has gone viral on social media.

Sightings have been recorded in Maharashtra’s Nagpur and other areas, as well as Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua, Barwani, Betul, and Bhopal districts.

Even as a number of individuals turned to social media on Saturday to share footage of flaming objects falling from the sky in various regions of Madhya Pradesh, a top official at the Ujjain-based Jiwaji Observatory claimed it was a typical occurrence that may have been caused by meteorites.

According to Rajendra Gupta, Superintendent of the 300-year-old Jiwaji Observatory in Ujjain stated, “This appears to be ulkapind (meteorites). Their fall is common.”
