Tuesday saw the rescue of a leopard that had wandered inside a school in Mumbai’s Goregaon neighborhood by the forest department, police officers, and other volunteers. Online images and videos of the huge cat’s rescue from the restroom at the school have appeared.

When a huge cat was seen leaping over the school’s gate, a security guard alerted the forest department. The leopard managed to jump through a small window and became stuck inside the restroom.

“There is forest-like greenery nearby. Last night, the leopard wandered onto the school grounds and was imprisoned in a restroom. Girija Desai, a representative of the Forest Department, was quoted by ANI in a tweet as stating, “We have saved the leopard.

An NGO working in Thane and Mumbai named Wildlife Welfare Association (WWA) posted a video of the tranquillized leopard being transferred from the school’s restroom to a forest department truck.

Photographs showed volunteers from an NGO and representatives from the police and forest departments draping a net over the school’s grounds and keeping an eye on the large cat in the restroom.

According to a Facebook post by WWA, the rescue effort took almost three hours. The tranquillized leopard was sent to Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) for a checkup, and after its health was determined, it would subsequently be released back into the wild.

In Maharashtra, recently, employees of the forest department managed to free a leopard that had become trapped in an open well. Susanta Nanda, an employee of the Indian Forest Service, posted the video on Twitter and encouraged followers to cover wells to protect wildlife.
