A video of a buffalo calf coming to say goodbye to his owner, who had died, is going viral on social media. A cattle owner died in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, and his body was taken to a cemetery (shamshan ghat) for his funeral.

As the man’s family, friends, and other villagers were saddened by his death, one of his animals, a buffalo (bhains), ran toward the ground to say goodbye to the man who took care of him every day. People saw the calf looking for the body, so they moved out of the way to show him where to go and to avoid getting hit by him.

Some men could be heard telling people to move out of the way so the calf could get through. The calf ran toward his owner’s body, stayed in the middle, and started crying. A man was heard saying, “Ro raha hai” (He’s crying). People gave the calf a proper send-off. A man was seen crying and wiping away his tears. Seeing the buffalo cry for the dead man made him feel even worse, and this made him cry even more.

A man could be heard telling the buffalo, “Jao Yamraj.” The buffalo was also called “gangaram” by someone. The Twitter user who posted the video said that the buffalo was present when the last rites (antim sanskaar) were done.
