A video of a desi man dancing in a skirt on the streets of New York, US, has gone viral on social media. Jainil Mehta is from Gujarat and works as a dancer in New York. He is a choreographer who is often seen dancing in flowy skirts to Bollywood music on the streets of New York City. The Indian dancer recently put a video of him dancing to the song “Barso Re” from the movie “Guru” with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Instagram.

In the video, Jainil is dancing near a fountain, which makes it look like he is dancing in the rain. He is wearing a yellow shirt and a beautiful royal purple skirt with gold zari banaras brocade. Jainil did a beautiful job of dancing to the song’s moves. As he twirled under the water barefoot in a skirt and danced his heart out, he did a great job with his facial expressions and energetic dance moves.

He put up the video on Instagram with the caption “Barso Re.” I saw this out of the blue. I couldn’t help but join in and dance to this song. If this song is popular on Tik Tok, it can’t be left out of Instagram Reels.” Now, over 687k people have watched the video and 55k people have liked it.

Take a look at the video:

Jainil described his journey from a child who enjoyed dancing in his mother’s skirts in a closed room to a professional dancer in the United States in another post. read the post’s caption, “At 18, I moved to LA to study dance professionally. Even though I learnt mixed forms, I never abandoned my thought of wearing skirts. During my education, I learnt to be more free in my thoughts & speech. So, I randomly decided to use social media to face my fear of wearing skirts & started posting my videos. I thought, ‘I want to be that carefree child again’. Unknowingly I’d also become the voice of so many men who supported gender neutral clothing, couldn’t talk about it.”

He continued, “It was a bold move but when during one of my shoots on the streets, an Indian family just stopped by & watched me with pride in their eyes & said that, ‘people like you make us proud of our culture!’, that was enough for me to keep going!”
