Alligators live in freshwater, swamps, rivers, ponds, and lakes, but rarely in the ocean. However, a 10-foot alligator sunbathing on a Florida beach returned to the water. After Kyle Hussey photographed the alligator at Melbourne Beach, netizens were astonished.

Hussey posted the photo with the comment “Watch your toes” in Brevard County Surf Fishing Reports on Facebook, and Fox 35 reported that it quickly garnered thousands of shares.

After some time on the beach, a Florida Fish and Wildlife officer arrived and the gator retreated into the surf, he informed the media source. Hussey left and is unsure what happened to the gator.

The alligator stunned beachgoers. “Another massive gator, this time in my neck of the ocean….it washed ashore near Melbourne Beach, FL this weekend,” a Facebook user posted. Florida rarely has this… I shared another gator that washed up in Delray Beach, FL a few days ago. Probably Hurricane Ian. Sad.”

Alligators can survive saline water for hours or days, according to National Ocean Service. They live in freshwater swamps, rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds.

Giant reptile videos and photos are popular online. A Florida nature reserve video showed a crocodile charging a man. While parkgoers watched, the man ran away.
