Many social media users appreciated the footage of the gorgeous rhino. So far, it has received over 1 lakh views, 2,200 likes, and several comments. “May this newborn Rhino have a long, healthy and safe life in the wilderness of Africa so that future generations can appreciate the immense beauty of this marvellous continent and all her creatures, great and small,” one user said.
Another user said, “Beautiful! Seeing God’s work is breathtaking! Stay safe, mom & little one!”
The third user added, “A beautiful moment to see. Let’s hope they are safe in the world.” The fourth user wrote, “Amazing. I can never understand why someone would want to hunt them.”
Rhinos are severely endangered animals. According to Helpingrhinos.org, rhino poaching and illegal trafficking in rhino horn have escalated dramatically since 2007 and are still primary reasons rhinos are endangered today.
Although rhino horn trade has been prohibited under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) since 1977, there is a substantial black-market demand for rhino horn. Rhino horns are utilised in traditional Asian medicine, mainly in Vietnam and China, according to the website, but there is no scientific evidence that the keratin found in the horn is effective as a treatment.
