Georgia Man’s Huge 186-Pound Sweet Potato
A Georgian who harvested 186 pounds of sweet potatoes from a single plant is vying for the title of Guinness World Records holder.
Gathering witnesses, such as Rocky Tanner, an extension official from the University of Georgia, and Joel Cochran, the Washington County sheriff, David Anderson of Washington County plucked tubers from the enormous plant on his land.
Anderson told the media, “The weather conditions were really good this year for growing potatoes.”
Weighing every tuber from a single root system is required to achieve the heaviest sweet potato record according to Guinness World Records regulations. The current record, held by Manuel Pérez Pérez of Spain in 2004, is 81 pounds and 9 ounces. Upon weighing Anderson’s harvest on a verified scale, the total weight was found to be 184 pounds.
The farmer has submitted proof of the harvest and weight to Guinness World Records for official confirmation; nevertheless, he anticipates receiving no response for several months. Anderson stated that he will be donating a significant amount of his crop to his church in the interim.
