Darren Criss and his wife, Mia Criss (formerly Swier), got married in 2019 but have been together since before he became famous in Hollywood. They are now expecting their second child, with their first, Bluesy Belle, born in April 2022.

Darren became well-known in 2010 as Blaine Anderson on Glee and has had success in various roles, including Broadway, voicing cartoons, and winning awards for his performance in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story in 2018.

Darren gives a lot of credit to Mia for his success, and they’re a happy family anticipating the arrival of their second child.

“We have been the ultimate plus-ones out here for each other for 10 years,” he said in April 2020. “My dreams and ambition have always been the driving force in my life. It was the gas in my tank. It almost consumed me.”

“Some people were slighted by that,” he continued. “But Mia never was. I am so grateful for her — every day.”

Darren expressed his love for his longtime partner when he won the best actor award at the 2019 Golden Globes for a limited series or TV movie.

“I’d like to thank my teachers, who are watching at home. That includes all of my fellow nominees,” he said in his emotional speech. “Mom, I know you’re watching this … I love you dearly. I dedicate this to you… [And] Mia, for your undying love and patience.”

Darren and Mia first met in 2006 through friends, but they didn’t start dating until about July 2010, a few months before Darren made his first appearance on Glee.

“We’ve been together a long time,” he said in a 2013 interview when asked about his then-girlfriend. “I didn’t know I was going to be on TV when we started dating.”

The American Crime Story actor, who mentioned in April 2020 that he took his time to decide on getting engaged, proposed to Mia around January 2018 after seven years of dating.

“Mia and I have had seven and a half years of fun, wacky, wonderful, CRAZY adventures together,” he wrote on Instagram. “And I’m happy to announce that we’re kicking those adventures up a notch. We’re going for it. To boldly go where neither of us have gone before. Engage. 🚀💍🖖.”

Darren and Mia got married on February 16, 2019, in New Orleans, surrounded by their friends and family. The guest list included famous friends from Glee like Lea Michele, John Stamos, Chord Overstreet, and Harry Shum Jr.

“That was one of the most incredible events of my entire life,” Darren told PEOPLE in April 2020. “The most magical experience. Say what you will about the construct of marriage and tradition: weddings are amazing.”

The couple is also enjoying their married life, and it’s been wonderful for them. “This feels right. Married. The idea of marriage was not something I gravitated to earlier in life,” he said. “But, we were together for a long time before. By that point in our lives, it was a validation and sharing of our life and existence. In many ways, it’s not been a change at all.”

Darren and Mia happily shared the news about having their first baby in October 2021. They announced a cute photo shoot with a music theme and a sweet video that revealed their baby’s heartbeat.

In December 2023, they shared exciting news about growing their family by posting a picture. In the photo, Darren replaced Meryl Streep’s face, his wife’s replaced Amanda Seyfried’s, and their daughter’s face went over Lily James’ on Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again poster. They added two positive pregnancy tests to announce the upcoming arrival.

“And COMING SOON…,” he wrote in the caption. “let’s hope the sequel is better than the photoshop✌️🤪 ‼️.”

In 2018, Darren and Mia teamed up to start a cool piano bar in Hollywood named Tramp Stamp Granny’s, featuring popular show tunes.

“There’s a great white space for it, because a lot of the folks we love here are New York transplants or theater people or just fun-loving L.A. artist types,” Darren told Time Out in 2018. “Singing by the piano is either something you love, or something you didn’t realize you love and just never had access to it.”

The couple who loves theater even threw a party celebrating musical theater albums at a popular place in 2020.

Mia and her husband both work in showbiz, but Mia works behind the scenes. She began her career as a production assistant at White Cherry Entertainment, where she worked on big events like the Super Bowl, Tony Awards, Daytime Emmy Awards, and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

As she advanced in her career, she worked at Showtime, helping with shows like Dexter, Homeland, and Shameless as an associate producer. Later on, she became a writer and producer at Fox Broadcasting Company. Eventually, in October 2012, she started her own production company called Von Glitz Productions.

Based on her LinkedIn profile, she is mainly interested in or concentrating on, “creating artistic content with a purpose and strong message.”

Mia and Michele became friends through Darren, but they’ve developed their own close bond over time. Michele played a role in Darren and Mia’s wedding in 2019, and when Michele was planning her own wedding, she sought advice from the producer.

“[Mia and I have] known each other for so many years now. It’s just been great to have another bride that’s going through this process,” Michele told Brides. “Just being like, ‘What did you do for this?’ ‘What did you try for that?’ because it is a lot of information to funnel through.”

Mia went to New York University’s Steinhardt School of Media Studies and Television Production from 2003 to 2007. During that time, she did internships at ABC, USA Networks, and Saturday Night Live. After finishing her degree, she kept studying at the New York Film Academy.

Mia has tried various projects, like directing Keke Palmer’s music video “I Don’t Belong to You” in 2015. The cool black-and-white video was filmed in New Orleans.

Mia used to play bass and sing in a punk rock band called Shoot the Freak, but they broke up in 2012. She was in charge of taking photos for their EP called “Hell on Heels.” Mia is also in an all-female tribute band for Guns N’ Roses called Guns N’ Hoses.

Though the band  in 2013 that they started as “party joke,” Mia started performing with a band, and even when she was pregnant in October 2021, she continued to be part of their shows. She also sings with her husband and his friends. In 2019, she went live on Instagram with Darren, Dianna Agron, and Overstreet, singing the famous song “What’s Up?” by 4 Non Blondes.
