Born in December 1984 in New York City, Charlotte Cowles grew up with her brother under the care of her father, Tim Cowles. After graduating from Columbia University in 2007 with a degree in Creative Writing and English Literature, she embarked on a career in journalism.

Cowles began her career as an Assistant Editor before moving on to roles at Sling Media and Magazine. In 2013, she joined Harper’s Bazaar as a Senior Features Editor before transitioning to freelance work, contributing to publications like the New York Times.

Despite her success in journalism, Cowles fell victim to a sophisticated scam orchestrated by an imposter posing as a CIA agent. The scam, which unfolded in October 2023, left Cowles shaken but determined to share her story with others as a cautionary tale.
