Despite Weaver’s initial uncertainty due to having a boyfriend at the time, the two reconnected at a party she hosted, leading to a whirlwind romance. Six months after meeting, they had dinner, and three months later, they decided to marry.

The couple wed on October 1, 1984, and welcomed their only child, Charlotte, six years later. Simpson, originally from Hawaii, began his career as a child actor, making $2,000 a week on “Hawaii Five-O” at age 17. His upbringing in Hawaii significantly influenced his values and artistic vision, which he described as a blend of his spiritual atheist New Yorker identity and his Keiki o ka Aina Congregationalist roots.

Simpson is a multifaceted talent, known for directing films like “Tales From the Crypt,” “Spice World,” and “The Guys.” In 1996, he co-founded The Flea theater in New York, where Weaver praised his dedication and vision. Their shared careers in the entertainment industry have strengthened their bond, allowing them to support each other’s work and collaborate occasionally.

The couple’s child, Char, was born in 1990 and is now a nonbinary educator at Columbia University, focusing on digital storytelling and AI. Weaver and Simpson have balanced their demanding careers with parenting by taking turns and supporting each other’s professional endeavors.
