Viral Dashcam Footage Exposes Staged Accident in Queens: Watch
A dashcam video from Queens’ Belt Parkway has gone viral, revealing what appears to be an insurance scam. In the footage, a silver sedan suddenly cuts off Natasha Ashipa’s SUV, then reverses into her vehicle, raising suspicions of a staged accident.
The video, which gained popularity on TikTok, shows Ashipa visibly shocked and exclaiming, “This guy just reversed into me. What the hell is going on?” The incident caught the attention of retired NYPD officer Michael Salazar, who analyzed the clip for FOX 5. He pointed out several signs of a planned scam, including a hefty bag covering the rear windshield, which obscures the drivers’ identities.
Salazar, now a criminal justice professor, explained that scams like this often target solo drivers, especially women, in busy urban areas like New York City. The National Insurance Crime Bureau reports that such fraudulent setups are common in large cities, preying on vulnerable motorists.
To protect themselves, Salazar recommends drivers use dashcams and report any suspected staged accidents to authorities. He stated, “Dashcams can be invaluable in capturing incidents like these and protecting against fraudulent claims.” The video serves as a reminder for drivers to stay alert and be aware of potential scams on the road.
