Who is Edward Abel Smith?

Edward, a.k.a. Ned Rocknroll, is the billionaire Richard Branson’s nephew and the Virgin Group founder. Prior to getting married, he held the position of head of astronaut experience and marketing promotion at Virgin Galactic. Seeing each other at Spaceport America’s launch served as a catalyst for their early-life bond.

Dramatic Meeting

The couple’s first meeting was quite dramatic. During Hurricane Irene in August 2011, a fire broke out in the main house while on vacation on Branson’s Necker Island. Winslet heroically assisted Branson’s elderly mother, while Smith helped out in a neighboring home. This life-altering experience immediately formed their bond.

Building Family

In December 2012, Winslet and Smith tied the knot in a private ceremony that was witnessed by close friends and family, including Leonardo DiCaprio, who costarred with Winslet in Titanic. Their only child, Bear Blaze Winslet, has a middle name that alludes to that tragic fire.
