Flights at Dubai Airport were delayed with some cancellations due to flooding.

Dubai Airport can confirm that due to heavy rainfall and flooding, Dubai International (DXB) is experiencing operational disruptions,” an official said.

“Flight delays continued throughout the day with some cancellations and diversions to Dubai World Central,” he said.

The official added that the government was trying its best with service partners to ensure full operations were resumed.

The government advised citizens to use the metro in Dubai to avoid traffic snarls.

“Unusually heavy rain has hit Dubai, with rainfall reaching 150 mm/hour for 2.5 hours, according to preliminary reports, resulting in water ponds in some areas of the emirate and traffic diversions,” tweeted the Dubai Media Office.

Passengers asked to check revised times with airlines and budget sufficient time to reach the airport.

Service and vehicle inspection centres, and driving institutes shut in the city owing to the heavy rains.

The National Centre of Meteorology warned citizens to be extremely vigilant.

Furthermore, They said rains could continue in the city for the next two days.

Freezing rain expected in the mountain areas and rainfall would continue over the next two days, the weather department said.

Chilly temperatures will persist across the country with the mercury expected to dip 4 to 6 degrees lower through the week.

However, Mountain areas such as Jebel Jais will have minimum temperatures as low as 0°C.

Internal areas will range between 9°C to 14°C and coastal areas will stay at 10°C to 15°C.
