ISLAMABAD – A heatwave is expected to affect Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and the plains of Pakistan on Wednesday and Thursday, with daytime temperatures rising 2 to 4°C above normal. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports that continental air is prevalent over most of the country, with a shallow westerly wave affecting the northern regions.

Under these conditions, extremely hot weather is anticipated in the twin cities and most plains on both days. However, isolated areas in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may experience partly cloudy weather with light rain or thunderstorms in the evening or at night.

In Islamabad, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 41-43°C on Wednesday and Thursday, while in Rawalpindi, temperatures will likely be between 40-42°C.

Over the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather dominated the twin cities and most of the country, with extremely high temperatures in the southern and central regions. Scattered rains occurred in some areas. Upper Dir recorded 6 mm of rainfall.

Jacobabad was the hottest place in the country, with a maximum temperature of 48°C. Other high temperatures included 47°C in Sibbi, Noor Pur Thal, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bhakkar, and 46°C in Okara, Kot Addu, Kasur, Karor (Layyah), Jhang, and Dadu.
