A Russian oil refinery close to Ukraine claims drone attack damaged it. Operations at the refinery were halted, according to management; after a drone attack targeting infrastructure.

According to the administration of the plant; a drone attack struck a significant Russian oil refinery close to the Ukrainian border; causing a ball of flame and black smoke to billow into the sky and forcing the suspension of operations.

The first drone strike occurred at 8:40am (05:40GMT); hitting a crude distillation unit and causing a boom and ball of fire; according to officials at the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia’s Rostov area.

The refinery, which supplies the majority of the oil products in southern Russia; was the target of a second attack at 9:23 am. There were no injuries recorded.

The refinery is located in southwest Russia; only 8 kilometres (5 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

Two unmanned aerial vehicles struck at the Novoshakhtinsk technological facilities; according to a statement from the facility; “as a result of terrorist acts from the Western border of the Rostov region.”
