A car crashed into pedestrians a street in Berlin, killing one person and injuring 10 others.

Emergency services said it was not known if the local time accident was 10:30 a.m. (08:30 GMT) was intentional or accidental. A police officer said: “The driver was arrested on the spot”.

The incident took place on one of the busiest shopping streets in central West Berlin. Police spokesman Thilo Kablitz said more than a dozen people had been seriously injured.

The images of the scene show a silver Renault Clio falling from the window of a cosmetics store. There is also a picture that looks like a body covered with a blanket in the middle of the road. According to Berlin police, about 130 humanitarian workers are working on the site.

Berlin Mayor Francis Giffy told Twitter that he was “deeply moved” by the incident. He added: “We are checking the situation on the spot during the day. Thank you for the quick response and for more than 130 first responders for the victims. ” Actor John Baroman posted on Twitter that he was nearby at the time of the accident and said in a video posted on the spot that the car hit the sidewalk several times before colliding with a store sign.

The incident took place at the intersection of Rankesstrasse and Tauengienstrasse, west of Berlin. The area is opposite Breitscheidplatz, and 12 people died when a truck driver drove his truck to the Christmas market.

ISIS later claimed responsibility for the attacks by failed asylum seekers. The attacker was later shot and killed by Italian police.
