At a liturgy at Westminster Abbey, victims were remembered

Memorial service at Westminster Abbey to mark fifth anniversary of Grenfell Tower fire.
Seventy-two people were killed; by the blaze in west London on 14 June 2017.
The Dean of Westminster, Dr David Hoyle, said the loss was “still vivid and sharp”.

On the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire; a memorial ceremony was held at Westminster Abbey. On the 14th of June 2017, a fire in west London killed 72 people.

At 11:00 BST, the multi-faith memorial ceremony began with the names of the victims being read out; followed by a response from the congregation of “forever in our hearts.”

The loss was “still vivid and piercing,” according to the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle.

Those in attendance included former Prime Minister Theresa May; Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, and Housing Secretary Michael Gove.
As the church assembled “in sadness and in suffering;” Dr. Hoyle noted that the loss; and anguish were “still vivid and intense.” “We come together as those seeking justice; and a renewed commitment to ensuring safety in our homes; especially during fires,” he stated.
