“Croatia will use only the euro” after meeting with European Commission spokesman Valdis Dombrovskis after the transition period from January 1-15, 2023, Plenkovic told a news conference.

Meanwhile, Plenkovic urged Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Zdravko Maric to “monitor the situation” to prevent inflation.

Starting in September this year, retail prices are in Croatian kuna and euros. Dombrovskis said Croatia’s use of the euro would be a “historic achievement” after 10 years of EU membership.

Croatia needs the approval of the EU finance minister, who will provide full support in July.

“We have had a positive result. So we expect the normal process to be completed and Croatia to be able to join the Eurozone next year,” said Valdis Dombrovski, the EU’s vice president.

Dombrovskis, the commission’s chief economist, will visit Zagreb on Thursday for formal consultations with the Croatian government.

Plenkovich told a news conference in Berlin that the country’s goal was to reach the Schengen border that day.
