Rob Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 students and two teachers were shot dead, the mayor said.

Don McLaughlin said Tuesday at a tense and emotional council meeting with residents asking for answers to the shootings. He did not say when the school would be demolished.

The public outcry escalated after the May bombings, and police were accused of waiting more than an hour to confront the attackers. “I understand that the school will be demolished,” McLaughlin said. “I had this discussion with the director. “You can’t ask the child to go back or ask the teacher to go back to school,” McLaughlin said. Robb Elementary School has approximately 600 students in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades.
