On Thursday, South Africa said that it has found its first case of monkeypox, joining the ranks of over 40 other countries that have found people with the disease.

“The patient is a 30-year-old male from Johannesburg who has no travel history,” Health Minister Joe Phaahla said at a news conference. “Since the patient does not have a history of travel, it is not possible to link this to having been acquired outside of South Africa.”
