Separatist attacks are infrequent outside of the two Anglophone regions, where violence is common. Five Cameroon military police officers were murdered in an ambush on Tuesday night in Cameroon’s western region; near a province where separatists are fighting for a breakaway state, according to the regional governor.

The incident happened in Njitapon, in the district of Kouoptamo, in the West French-speaking region; which is bordered by two Anglophone regions where rebels have been fighting the French-speaking majority state since 2016.
Augustine Fonka Awa, the governor of the West region, acknowledged the attack without providing any details. Separatist attacks are infrequent outside of the two Anglophone regions, where violence is common.
