According to Business Standard, CNN’s new president, Chris Licht, said that the “Breaking News” banner will now only be used for extremely important events.

After taking over the media company from former CNN President Jeff Zucker a month ago, Licht is implementing new reforms, one of which is an emphasis on “more nuance and less hype.”

Some CNN journalists are sceptical that Licht, who is 50 years old, will be able to lead such a large news organisation given his lack of experience with such a large workforce.

On his first day, Licht informed employees, “I’m not here to go into the weeds of day-to-day editorial decision-making.”

He believes in questioning “cable news’s established philosophy.”

Those who are familiar with CNN’s internal affairs have criticised Licht. “I am going to make choices slower than some would prefer,” the new leader says, acknowledging the criticism.

Advertisers were also advised that Licht wanted to “disrupt” morning television. He expressed a desire for a more “conversational approach” with the audience.

On the cable network, the longtime producer is searching for a broader diversity of perspectives and hopes to include more Republicans and conservatives on political programming.

At first glance, Licht appears to be attempting to eliminate the “showman-like traits” that Zucker instilled in CNN during his nine-year stint.
