Over the weekend, fans criticized the singer’s choice of lyrics, noting that derogatory language was often used to attack people with disabilities. One of them, Hannah Divini, used Twitter to explain why the word offended people.
“Cerebral palsy is literally classified as spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, which basically means that there is a certain stiffness or tightness in the leg,” he told the a news channel. “It’s something I have no control over and it makes my life very hard and difficult. It’s really weird to see that this word means someone is losing control or is emotionally stressed. Not at all.”
Lizzo described him as a “true ally” and changed the text after following the tweet.
